After Santander took over Abbey in 2004, it transformed the business from its building society foundations to one of the world’s biggest banks. I was attracted by the prospect of working for a business that was going from strength to strength. I had also read about the STEP programme, which rewards high-achieving graduates with a chance to work abroad for three years and that particularly appealed to me.
