The Company

EDF Energy is one of the UK’s largest energy companies and its largest producer of low-carbon electricity. A wholly-owned subsidiary of one of Europe's largest energy groups, we generate around one fifth of the UK's electricity and employ around 15,000 people. The company is organised into the following business units:

• Existing Nuclear operates eight nuclear power stations in the UK with a combined capacity of almost 9,000 megawatts – electricity that is vital to the UK economy.
• Nuclear New Build develops and delivers the new generation of nuclear plants to produce safe, affordable, reliable, low-carbon electricity
• Energy Sourcing and Customer Supply runs power stations and wind farms, buys and sells power and deals with all our energy customers

Training & Profiles

Training at EDF Energy varies from role to role. But wherever you join us, you can expect a commitment to developing your skills and professional knowledge – from hands-on experience to formal training. Depending on your chosen career, we’ll also support you personally and financially to gain a professional qualification and accreditation within your field.

When you first arrive, we’ll provide a thorough induction, and the chance to take part in a site visit, to get a broad overview of our business. We'll even appoint a mentor and buddy for you, to guide you through the programme, answer any questions, and generally help you to settle in.

After this, if you’re eager to progress your career into a leadership role, you could join a foundation-level management development programme. It’s been specifically designed to equip you with the skills you’ll need to become a great manager of people.

How many graduates are you looking for?

For 2012 we’ll be taking on a total of 120 graduates.

When are the closing and start dates?

We’ll need your application by 31st December 2011, to join in September 2012.

Do you accept applications from candidates who require a work permit?

Yes. EDF Energy is licensed to sponsor individuals from overseas to work in the UK where criteria set by the UK Border Agency can be met. For further details, visit www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk

Do I need any specific qualifications?

Applicants need to have a minimum of a 2:1 at undergraduate degree level or a 2:2 with a postgraduate degree. For certain roles, you’ll need a qualification in a specific discipline – visit our website for more details on these.

Can I apply for more than one scheme?

We advise you consider which scheme you are most suited to before applying. However, if you feel your skills are suited to more than one scheme then we welcome more than one application. Please contact us by email for advice on which scheme to apply for.

What area of EDF Energy can I apply to with my type of degree?

For Nuclear power stations or Engineering Support, you’ll need an engineering degree, or a science degree (physics, maths, materials and chemistry or environmental). For Networks Engineering, you’ll need Electrical Engineering or Physics. And for Finance, HR, Business Analysis, Energy Analysis or Commercial Management, you’ll need an associated finance, IT, economics or business related degree – depending on the role.

Where could I be based?

Your location will depend on which programme you apply for. Due to the rotational nature of our programmes, you may need to relocate during the scheme.
