UK graduates looking for a career in the rail industry are being offered a chance to join a new Track and Train initiative
The scheme, which is funded by Network Rail and involves 27 partner companies, aims to provide local employment opportunities for young people who have graduated in the last two years but do not have a job or are not working in a graduate-level role.
The new cross-industry, paid internship scheme will find places for 100 graduates, including six at train operator East Coast.
The successful candidates will be offered three placements of six months, which will include time at Network Rail and with either a passenger or freight operator or another firm within the sector.
Stephanie Oerton, head of learning and development for East Coast Trains, hailed the opportunity that the scheme offers to graduates, who are struggling to find work amid the current economic climate, where unemployment is rising. She added that the company is "delighted" to be involved.
