Graduates looking for jobs in accountancy have been boosted by news of positive signs in the sector for 2012.
More than 50 per cent of firms told International Accounting Bulletin (IAB) that they were planning to take on new staff next year.
And in what can be considered good news for graduates, the IAB found that more than 66% of new recruits will be graduates as well as newly qualified accountants.
The IAB poll was based on the responses of 156 firms, with the respondents revealing that the most common job openings would be in audit and services, followed by bookkeeping and transaction processing, and then taxation.
IAB editor Arvind Hickman said: "The survey results indicate an industry that is cautiously optimistic after a quiet few years following the financial crisis of 2008. Some of the biggest accounting firms are now reporting a surge in hiring, particularly in advisory services and in fast-growing economies such as Russia, India and China."
