Sofa giant DFS has announced that it is on track to create 300 new jobs, possibly including a few for graduates, as part of its plans to expand its operations.
The upholstered furniture retailer posted a 43% year-on-year decline in its underlying profits for the 13 weeks ended October 29 to £15.2 million, but this has not prevented the group from investing in future growth.
DFS's investment in expansion strategies is partly responsible for the drop in its underlying profits.
The firm's sales during the period reached £128.2 million, down 14% year-on-year due to weak demand.
Seven new stores have been opened by the group since July, helping create 200 new jobs. The new stores are located in Brentford, Colne, Hereford, High Wycombe, Huddersfield, Lincoln and Old Kent Road in London.
Three more stores will be opened by July 2012, while its operations at three Nottingham sites are also being expanded.
