A brewer and pub chain's expansion is expected to create 1,000 jobs during the next year, shining a ray of hope on the prospects of graduate recruitment.
Marston's has pledged to build another 25 pubs following a successful financial year, with "impressive" sales and bigger profits which saw it sell more than 26 million meals in its managed pubs up to October 1.
The meals brought an average spend per head of £6.10 as customers searched out "affordable treats" in tough economic times.
The firm would continue to open purpose-built pubs after it opened 19 over the last year, said chief executive Ralph Findlay. He urged the Government to recognise its "damaging" taxation polices, especially beer duty, concerning pubs, brewers and jobs.
"Pubs make a real contribution to employment," said Mr Findlay.
Marston's already has 12,000 employees and 2,150 pubs under brands including Pitcher & Piano and Tavern Table.
