A construction company has announced it will be creating over 100 jobs suited to graduates when work begins on a new terminal at Belfast Harbour to build wind turbines.
The 50-acre development will have a 450-metre quay and Farrans Construction said it hopes to create 150 construction jobs and will open in 2013, offering hope to those in the field looking for employment.
Initially the terminal off the coast of Cumbria will be leased by DONG Energy and ScottishPower Renewables but will be used by DONG for future operations in the Irish Sea.
Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster said over the next 20 years Belfast Harbour could become a major centre in the offshore wind sector.
She added: "This investment clearly demonstrates DONG Energy's confidence in our local capabilities and underlines Northern Ireland's potential to become a leading player in this sector."
Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy added: "This key investment project will see the continued regeneration of Belfast's docks and harbour area and provides the basis for Northern Ireland to benefit from a growing national and international renewables market."
