Engineering graduates will be interested to hear that a Leicestershire engineering firm is to be expanding thanks to new Government funding, creating as many as 400 roles to the region.

The £5.5million injection comes as part of the overall £950 million package announced by the coalition on Monday, to help businesses across the country in an attempt to stimulate economic growth.

Some of the money will be used to expand an engineering firm in Groby, while the rest is to be pumped into the set-up of a brand new hi-tech vehicle testing centre.

The University of Leicester specifically has been allocated £1.07 million for the new facility, news which has delighted pro-vice chancellor for research and enterprise Professor Kevin Schurer.

He said: "We have identified two sites in the city for the facility. The feeling is we will bring 250-plus jobs here.

"The traditional way of testing is to put sensors on the vehicle. What this system does is provide a way of doing it without touching the vehicle. It means the process is more efficient and cost-effective."
