Graduates with an eye on engineering opportunities in the burgeoning eco-product manufacturing sector might want to keep an eye out for vacancies at Tata's Hartlepool steel plant following the announcement of a £2m investment in the site.
The money will be pumped into expanding the North East factory's output of steel products for the renewable energy sector. Specifically the plant will ramp up its production of tubular sections of wind turbine support structures, or jacket foundations. Tata will also work with German producer Eisenbau Kramer after reaching a supply agreement.
Ramsay Ross of Tata Steel said: "This investment reinforces Tata Steel's commitment to establishing a significant presence as a supplier to the renewables sector as the drive to transform the energy supply scene in the EU gathers pace.
"The wind tower hub in Scunthorpe, which was launched last year to process and distribute steel plate for fabricators, was a key step in this strategy.
"This separate development, in which we will be modifying buildings and investing in new assets at Hartlepool, is the next stage."
