B&Q has announced a new fast-track graduate training scheme.
The scheme will offer successful candidates the chance to become a store manager in the space of two to three years.
A total of 20 graduate jobs will be available, the retailer said.
B&Q chief executive Euan Sutherland said: "Competition in the graduates' job market is fierce, but successful candidates will be offered a fantastic fast-track learning experience."
Meanwhile another retailer, Debenhams, has offered its own boost to the jobs market with the news that it will take on thousands of temporary staff over Christmas.
Some 6,500 workers will be hired by the group during its busy festive period, with an average of 40 employed in each of the company's 163 stores.
Debenhams said the jobs will be available from mid-November until early January across several departments including menswear, womenswear, accessories, childrenswear, home, gifts and cosmetics.
Chief executive Michael Sharp said: "These jobs are sure to be welcomed by local economies during the most financially challenging part of the year.
"Approximately a quarter of staff that work with us over the festive season will stay on in permanent roles, making this a crucial period in our employment calendar."
