Science and technology graduates may find new job opportunities at a Scottish medical diagnostics firm which has unveiled ambitious expansion plans.

AccuNostics, based in Forres, Moray, has secured a £4 million investment to widen its presence internationally. It hopes to market its product range, consisting of innovative self-monitoring medical devices such as blood glucose monitors, around the globe.

As part of the growth plans the company hopes to create more than 30 new positions over the next year in Forres - which it said had the highest employee retention rates among all sites considered for its headquarters.

Moray's top-class infrastructure and high quality of life also came in for special praise from AccuNostics boss Giles Hamilton.

"With a skilled local workforce, these are vital assets when attracting world-class talent and building a business. Coupled with the expertise in life sciences in the Moray area, we are very fortunate to be able to base our operations in Forres," he said.

A £1.5 million share of the latest investment comes as a grant from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), and the rest from venture capital group Delta Partners of Ireland and the Scottish Investment Bank.

First Minister Alex Salmond said: "Scotland's reputation as one of Europe's leading locations for life sciences continues to be further strengthened by companies such as AccuNostics choosing to locate research businesses and jobs here."
