Extra teachers are being hired in Glasgow to drive up exam results in the city in a major boost for graduate recruitment.
A £500,000 scheme will see 26 of the city's 30 secondary schools gain an extra full-time member of staff for the rest of the academic year.
The City Council said school heads should use extra staff in the best way they can to drive up exams attainment among pupils.
The funding is in place until next March, when the scheme's success will undergo assessment before a decision is taken on its future.
Council leader Gordon Matheson said: "Personally and politically, education is a key priority for this administration and we have decided to recruit an additional 26 teachers for secondaries with the sole remit of raising attainment.
"We need to keep an absolute focus on the driving up of the quality of teaching and learning in our schools, and that is already bearing fruit in our exam results."
