Train operator ScotRail has announced a £4 million refurbishment of its class 334 fleet that will bring up to 20 jobs, including those for graduates, to Ayrshire.
The refurbishment project is set to start in November and will see re-covering of seats, laying of new floors and upgrading of the interior.
In addition, the exterior will have a saltire logo printed.
A portion of the work on the class 334 fleet, which runs services mainly on the Helensburgh/Milngavie - Edinburgh via Airdrie and Bathgate line, is being sub-contracted to Brodie Engineering, which is located in Kilmarnock.
The contract would trigger extension plans for Brodie's rail vehicle overhaul facility, resulting in a "phased increase" in employment.
Railway Projects Ltd (RPL) in Derby will handle a major portion of the refurbishment project.
