Graduates may be interested to hear that a new multimillion-pound centre, which will carry out research into sensor systems and their commercial application, will be set up later this month in Scotland.

The Scottish Sensor Systems Centre (SSSC), which will bring together universities in Scotland, private firms and the public sector, will recruit post-doctoral research assistants as well as business development managers in Glasgow and Aberdeen between June this year and December 2012.

The centre will receive £1.2 million worth of funding from the Scottish Funding Council, £1.6 million from higher education institutions and £1.3 million from industry.

Mark Batho, chief executive of the Scottish Funding Council, said: "We are pleased to invest in knowledge exchange projects such as this which harness the research expertise of Scotland's leading universities to help meet the needs of industry.

"This is a great example of collaboration between universities and several business partners which will establish Scotland as a leading global centre for research into these systems."

The SSSC will be funding four initial projects between June 2011 and December 2012.
