The planning of a new wind turbine factory in Kent, with the creation of 2,000 jobs, brings hope for graduates looking for work.
The turbine giant Vestas plans to build the plant at Sheerness for the offshore wind industry following the Danish-owned firm's decision to shut its Isle of Wight factory with hundreds of job losses.
Greenpeace hailed Vestas' announcement that it is to apply for planning permission for the project, saying it was "excellent news".
The environmental group added that the move showed there were huge opportunities in the UK for renewable energy.
John Sauven, executive director of Greenpeace UK, said: "The Government now needs to create the right regulatory framework to build a sustainable green economy.
"This must include removing the blockages to faster take-up of renewable energy, including giving the Green Investment Bank the ability to borrow money and setting ambitious renewable energy targets beyond 2020."
Greenpeace called on the Government to ensure support for offshore wind, including improving skills and training, the electricity grid and the offshore planning regime and making sure planned reform of the energy market backs renewables rather than focusing on nuclear.
