Accountancy firm PwC plans to create 1,200 jobs - as many as 125 in the Midlands - and aims to employ a further 50 to 75 graduates in full-time permanent jobs in the region this year.
This will make a total of more than new 1,600 roles.
The new employees, who are part of the company's biggest recruitment drive so far, will work in the assurance, advisory and tax divisions.
In October 2009 the firm opened recruitment for over 1,200 graduates, 400 interns and around 70 A-level students.
Mark Smith, regional chairman of PwC in the Midlands, said: "We've seen early applications to the firm skyrocket this year because students wanted to be first in line for the jobs as soon as they were created.
"With plans to recruit a total of 1,200 graduates nationally, including 100 to 125 here in the Midlands, we've created the largest ever number of jobs for students and graduates at the firm, so there are plenty of opportunities remaining. Graduates applying now could be starting work at one of our Midlands-based offices as early as April."
