Graduates with strong skills in mathematics, computer modelling and field research, among other abilities, are needed to tackle a looming shortfall in people able to tackle urgent environmental challenges.
Skills such as numeracy and being able to translate complex research into plain language were in short supply, a report said.
A shortage of people with these skills would make it more difficult to solve issues such as environmental risks to human health, safe carbon capture and developing new energy sources
The 'Most Wanted' report by the Environment Research Funders' Forum revealed as many as 224 skills required by the Government, educational entities and businesses which have some relation with the natural environment.
Academics hope the report will mean lead to employers and trainers working more closely.
