Graduates looking for jobs in the construction industry will be delighted to learn that a sustainable house-building firm is hoping to create up to 400 jobs at its new plant in Lancashire.

Pretek Precision Homes, manufacturer of eco-friendly pre-packaged homes, has announced an £8 million investment in its new manufacturing unit in Blackburn, Lancashire, which will have the capacity to build more than 3,000 new homes a year.

The company has transformed a 192,000 sq ft former steel storage building at Walker Park into a facility to build low to zero energy rated, fully sustainable houses.

The new houses aim to comply with new European building regulations designed to make all new homes sustainable and zero carbon by 2016.

Pretek has already started production at its new unit, supported by research into cost-effective and efficient factory assembled homes in Scandinavia, Canada and Japan.

Potential initial customers include housing associations and private developers looking to provide the UK with its next generation of energy efficient, eco-responsible homes.
