Graduates in telecommunication will be delighted to learn that a new broadband project by BT hopes to create up to 4,000 jobs.
The communications giant said the £132 million project providing faster broadband links to Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly hopes to make it the best connected location in the world, benefiting tens of thousands of local businesses.
Under the plan, a high-speed network for broadband connection, open to all communications providers, would give up to 90% of local businesses and homes access to super-fast fibre broadband by 2014, "transforming" the competitiveness of local firms.
The project, for which BT is contributing £78.5 million, is being supported by an investment of up to £53.5 million by the European Regional Development Fund.
Ian Livingston, chief executive of BT, said: "This is a very significant project that once again positions Cornwall as a broadband leader. It will make the county one of the best-connected areas in the world and provide a major boost to its prosperity."
