A pharmacy graduate was "really pleased" to be named pre-registration graduate of the year, it was announced.

Lloydspharmacy staff member Tim Brown was nominated by his fellow graduates on the pre-registration training programme at the pharmacy, and the winner was announced the the firm's annual ball.

Nirvair Gill, who works at Lloydspharmacy's Leeds Moortown, was in second place, while the third place prize went to Rohini Gogna from the Anchor Meadow Health Centre in Aldridge, in the West Midlands.

Mr Brown said that he was "really pleased to be nominated in my area, let alone win overall", and said that his project on the improper use of inhalers stood out to the judges, and could have been the reason he won.

He said of his project: "The results showed that many who use inhalers and suffer side effects are doing so because they are inhaling too quickly. This means the medicine hits the back of their throat rather than reaching their lungs. We will now be using this information during our MUR procedures to ensure our patients are getting the best from their medication."
