Producing graduates capable of designing warships is the new aim of the University of Southampton after it signed a fresh deal with BAE Systems.
The partnership will see the university produce the talent needed to underpin the future for the shipbuilding and defence industry giant, which is based in Hampshire, and is committed to maritime research and development.
Cutting edge research will be carried out in Southampton and students on the course will be able to receive placements at BAE who will provide expert guest lecturers.
BAE Systems bought VT Group's Portsmouth shipbuilding facility last year.
A spokesman said: "The partnership will focus on strategically important areas of platform systems technologies, industrial/systems engineering, and readiness and sustainment, which are fundamental to the long-term sustainability of BAE Systems' maritime operations and the wider industry in the UK."
