A University of Manchester graduate has become Britain's youngest doctor at the age of 21.
Rachael Faye Hill began studying for her medical degree a few weeks after her 17th birthday and has now made history.
"My family would have been proud anyway but I think it has made them extra proud that I am now the youngest doctor in the country," she said. "I'm hoping it won't be an issue and no one will treat me any differently."
The Blackpool-born doctor moved abroad with her mother and younger brother at the age of eight. She attended the English-speaking Colegio Hispano Britanico in Lanzarote, where her family now live.
Rachael, who has wanted to be a doctor since the age of 10, was allowed to skip school years after teachers recognised her potential. She sat her GCSEs at 13 and passed her A-levels when she was 15, achieving A grades in chemistry and biology and Bs in maths and physics.
But she had to wait for two years before she could start her course in Manchester, because one cannot study medicine in this country until the age of 17. Rachael sailed right through her five-year course, graduating with friends aged 23 and 24.
