Graduates have Best Buy opportunity - graduate jobs

Fri 23rd Apr 2010, 02:02PM   about second-jobber.com news.

US electrical retailer Best Buy is one week away from opening its first UK shop, in Thurrock, Essex, giving graduates the chance of picking up one of around 8,000 vacancies the firm says it will create over the next five years.

DSG International, the owner of UK retailer Currys, and supermarkets have been changing what they have for sale in anticipation of the US firm doing business here - analysts have said the impact of Best Buy dipping its toe in the UK could have been undermined by its soon-to-be competitors.

The first Best Buy store will open next Friday and will feature a trade-in service with which people can get money off goods in exchange for their old TV sets, mobile phones and laptops; a price-match guarantee which includes a further 10% discount; and a department which stocks environmentally friendly goods such as electric vehicles.

Those who get a job with the US firm will be put on a nine-week "blueshirt" training course and may be part of a 24-hour "geek squad" which provides support and advice on technology.

Best Buy is also opening shops in Southampton and in Merry Hill near Dudley in June, and then will open in Aintree near Liverpool and in Croydon.
