Graduates and business owners in the Yorkshire and Humber region have been celebrating the positive impact graduate interns have made to the local economy in the first Yorkshire Internship Awards.
The awards, organised by Graduates Yorkshire, recognise interns for the difference they have made to their host companies, and reward businesses who are creating best practice when establishing internship programmes.
Joe Winson, who was on placement at Sheffield based Digital Entrepreneurs, won the award for Best Yorkshire Intern after making the most of the opportunities he was offered and delivering an excellent return on a project he worked on.
Software company Trustmarque Solutions, based in York, received the Yorkshire Award for the excellent training and support offered to intern Peter Birkinshaw and the opportunities for growth and development within his role.
Thirteen interns and 11 companies were shortlisted for the ceremony, which was held at Anthony's Piazza in the newly refurbished Leeds Corn Exchange.
Martin Edmondson, Chief Executive of Graduates Yorkshire, said: "These awards demonstrate how businesses can benefit from interns and will hopefully persuade more firms to set up their own internship programmes."
