More than 700 graduates are set to benefit directly from regional development body Yorkshire Forward's (YF) decision to fund an internship programme.
The move will see YF support Graduates Yorkshire's placement scheme for the next three years, giving some 710 students the opportunity to gain paid work experience.
Scheme participants are placed in a wide variety of settings, including marketing, construction and IT, the aim being to bridge the gap between academic and practical education and make Yorkshire graduates more employable.
Martin Edmondson, Graduates Yorkshire chief executive, said: "Graduates don't stop learning the moment they leave university. Internships give vital experience in the workplace that you just can't get when you are studying.
"The jobs market is tough for graduates at the moment and, because we only offer paid for internships, it means graduates can take advantage of the scheme without having to worry about how they can support themselves financially during their placement."
