Graduates with a degree in science and technology are in demand in the jobs market despite the recession, according to a graduate recruitment expert.
Carl Gilleard, chief executive of the Association for Graduate Recruiters, said that the skills acquired by engineering graduates are still being actively sought by employers.
He added that the mood among recruiters looking to employ engineers was optimistic and that opportunities still exist for graduates looking to get into the engineering and IT sectors.
Mr Gilleard said: "I was at a meeting of 12 or 13 firms looking to recruit engineers, and I would definitely say that the mood was fairly upbeat.
"There was no air of depression in the room. There is still a demand for good graduate engineers."
According to UK Net Guide engineering and science-based graduates are likely also be receiving a higher salary than university leavers in arts and humanities-based roles.
