With unemployment continuing to rise and the recession only beginning to show signs of abating, the jobs market for graduates is proving tougher than ever.
But in Scotland a new development by supermarket giant Asda appears set to provide much-needed graduate construction jobs.
A new Asda supermarket is to be constructed in Forfar on the proviso that planning permission is granted and following consultation with local residents. Once those hurdles have been cleared, it is believed Asda will require temporary construction workers. An additional plus is that up to 270 retail jobs will be created, providing more opportunities for graduates to get on the employment ladder.
Alex Galbraith, director of Deanway Development, which is to be involved in the construction should it be given the green light, said: "Our development plans will support the ongoing and future economic development of Forfar and make a major contribution to the local economy, including up to 270 in-store jobs as well as temporary construction jobs through the build."
