A foreign language may help accountancy graduates find their first jobs and boost their careers, according to the the National Centre for Languages (CILT).
It is backing findings by James Foreman-Peck, of Cardiff Business School, that Britain is not doing enough to promote foreign-language skills at college and university.
Teresa Tinsley, CILT director of communications, says that graduates may struggle to compete with multi-lingual contemporaries when it comes to landing a job, and that young people must be made aware of the benefits of a second language.
She says: "We want to see more employers valuing languages as a key business skill, and we want commitments from all government departments - not just the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) - to recognise the importance of languages to Britain's future."
