Postgraduate students in the North East will offer ideas to businesses in the region as part of a unique new scheme.
The North East Studentship, or NESt, will pay for postgraduate students to work with firms on new projects while they are studying at local universities.
Regional Development Agency One North East will fund the scheme, which will involve postgraduate students from the universities of Newcastle, Durham, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside.
The initiative aims to help businesses work with new employees who can offer innovation, while nurturing the talent emerging from higher education in the region.
Alan Welby, director of strategy at One North East said: "The North East Studentship programme has been very well-received by businesses across the region, which have been able to tap into the creativity of some of our best young minds.
"For their part, postgraduate students get an excellent insight into the private sector and see how their ideas can be applied into real-world business situations."
