A Royal College of Art graduate has designed what he considers to be the perfect bike for commuters.
Dominic Hargreaves, 24, of London, has created the Contortionist, which can fold up inside its own wheels, making it easy to carry on to public transport such as the Tube or buses.
The Contortionist, which has been shortlisted for the James Dyson Award for international designs, can be carried by its owner by the bicycle's handlebar.
Mr Hargreaves said that similar fold-up products already on the market are still too big for day-to-day use.
He said: "The brief I set myself was to create a folding bike where all the parts fit in between the circumference of its 26-inch wheels when it is folded up. Once folded the bike cannot fold back on itself while riding. The wheels rotate when folded up so the folded package can be wheeled along rather having to be carried."
Mr Hargreaves is now looking for financial backing to get his project up and running and hopes to start selling the bike for around £400 next year.
