Job prospects for accounting graduates are relatively bright despite the economic downturn, according to a study by High Fliers Research.
It says that the accountancy sector is poised to recruit the most graduates in 2009, a fifth of all graduate jobseekers.
This is despite a survey showing that three quarters of graduates believe that employers will be cutting graduate vacancies this year in the face of the recession.
Said Dorothy Wood, UK head of education for the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA): "The results highlights the disillusion among UK graduates that has been caused by the current economic conditions."
She says that despite the lack of job opportunities, students can improve their chances of securing a postgraduate role by focusing on their professional development.
