Chemistry graduates appear to be bucking the trend when it comes to finding employment during the current economic downturn, with plenty of opportunities for career progression once a job has been secured.
And figures show that chemistry graduates tend to earn more during their career than graduates of almost any other discipline.
David Allan, operations manager for global laboratory testing and support service provider Intertek, commented: "Chemistry graduates are highly sought after, and valuable to, Intertek and we have chemists in roles across our organisation.
"Intertek is a global company so there are exciting career progression opportunities for skilled and driven individuals."
He told The Press and Journal that at the company's Aberdeen operation, where he is based, there are a number of positions available in both onshore and offshore laboratory services.
He added: "All our managers in Aberdeen have chemistry qualifications at some level. For example, the vice-president of Intertek's global analytical services division is a chemistry graduate, as am I.
"The majority of our Aberdeen staff hold tertiary qualifications in science, mostly chemistry."
