Graduates from every degree discipline should consider a career in accountancy - that's the message from a recruitment event at the University of York.
The aim of the event was to give students a full view of what accountancy involves and the visitors were informed about the credit crunch and what it meant for the job market.
Amanda Akien, senior marketing executive for the Institute Of Chartered Accountants In England and Wales, said: "For many undergraduates who are not studying maths, business, finance or accountancy as a degree, the idea of a career in accountancy does not occur to them."
She said the event gave students from every educational discipline the chance to learn about the ways of the profession. "Undergraduates realised that in reality, it is the discipline and application that university study instils which prepares them for the route to becoming a chartered accountant, rather than the specific subject area they have chosen," she said.
The event was hosted by Bright futures, the Institute Of Chartered Accountants In England and Wales and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
