Graduate Software Developer – Learning Platforms
The Team
The Kaleidos Learning Platform is central to RM’s Building Schools for the Future (BSF) solutions and is already in over 2,500 UK schools with over 3.5 million registered users, representing ~20% of the UK’s Local Authorities.
The Learning Platform development group is structured into functional teams; with this role looking for someone to join the Portal development team and help produce visually engaging tools to aid communication and collaboration within schools as well as to provide integration with a multitude of third party systems.
Our customers and bids are placing an increasing importance on the ability of our Learning Platform to produce transformative effect on teaching and learning in schools. This can only be met by producing intelligently designed and delivered products.
As a result we need to appoint an intelligent and enthusiastic Software Engineer to take on difficult development challenges using new technologies on a high-profile product.
The Role
The Portal component is pivotal in the Learning Platform and is based on Microsoft SharePoint and ASP.net.
You will be required to develop robust features that delight end users, working in a very fast-paced team according to an agile development methodology. These features need to be of a high-quality to meet the needs of our demanding customers and to keep pace with a rapidly changing market.
Your main responsibilities will be to:
• Develop well tested, robust and supportable software components
• Agree functional / user-interface specifications and designs for software components.
• Understand, define and refine customer requirements and propose solutions.
• Promote improvements to software components or development practices / processes.

The Learning Platform business is continually expanding. There are new feature developments required to deliver new contracts within the UK, extensions to the existing feature set for existing contracts and a growing development stream to support sales activity abroad (particularly in the US and Australia).
The purpose of this role is to undertake agreed development activities to support this growth, developing new software components for the Learning Platform Portal or integrating with external components, as well as providing ongoing maintenance of existing services.
Features developed for the Learning Platform have had a transformative effect on teaching and learning activities within schools.
Qualifications and Experience
A 2:1 or first class honours degree in a technical subject.
260 UCAS tariff points or equivalent.
You will also need:
• Interest in IT and enthusiasm for emerging web technologies.
• Tenacious problem solving.
• Excellent communication skills and team-working.
• Good self-organisation and planning.
